People are broken and imperfect, no matter how hard they try to hide the fact. They put on a face or airs, and try so desperately to fit in. Why? Why do people mask these feelings of inadequacy? It is part of them, for good or bad. Everyone walking around pretending they aren’t human, instead acting like everyone else. We are a world of broken souls wearing happy masks.
You have to fit in
You have to conform
You have to be okay
So many people mask their pain, choosing not to deal with their struggles. Some fight the pain by turning to drugs, alcohol, gambling, the list is endless. Coping is a daily exercise.
Then another senseless tragedy befalls the world. Train crashes, kidnappings, natural disaster, gun violence, on any given day there are multiple choices.
In this digital age, even one’s grandmother is on social media. It’s how many people get their news, gossip, human interaction. Another tragic event, another social media frenzy, and someone somewhere is triggered. Their emotions rise and fall with every new post, tweet, and video. If they speak out, it is emotion that does the talking. Is that a bad thing or a good thing? What is gained from the shared experience? Does it help ease their pain?
Are all the hurt, broken, wounded souls better or worse for all the interconnectedness? Or, were they better off on an island by themselves?
