Watching the latest round of gotcha between Google and Amazon, I am starting to feel like a step-child caught in the middle of divorcing parents. I understand that if Google gives Amazon an in, it would allow them to grow their Amazon app store user base on the back of Google Play. I understand that Amazon is trying to widen its product base and sees Google as its Goliath to slay.
But, they both need to come to terms with the reality that we are a society of multiple platform, multiple device users. Many people walk around with an Amazon Fire tablet, a Google Chromebook, and an Apple iPhone. Stop requiring that we choose sides. It frustrates your user base, makes lemming-like fan boys, and pits family members against each other.
At the end of the day, I want to be able to watch my Amazon Prime Instant Video on my Nexus 7 tablet. It doesn’t mean I prefer one over the other. It means that right now, these are the tools I am using. In 6 months or a year, when it comes time to replace a device or re-up a membership, I am going to make choices based on my experiences with each company, weighed against the other products/choices in the marketplace.
Hey Google and Amazon, is that so hard to understand?
